The
Story So Far...
It all began in a charming country village in 1989, when McIntyre's
Fine Books And Bookends opened its doors to the public.

October 14th, 2008:
Book Club Night!
If you currently belong to a Book Club, or are interested
in joining or leading one, McIntyre's Fine Books invites you to
attend our upcoming Book Club Night on Tuesday October
14th from 6pm-8pm. In addition to learning about some fabulous
new books for your reading lists, the event is also a great way to
network with other book lovers who might be interested in forming a
new club. Attendees can take advantage of special savings, discuss
book club titles with McIntyre's staff, and enjoy refreshments with
fellow bibliophiles. This event is free but registration is required
- all registered guests will receive a special gift! Call (919)
542-3030 for details or to sign up.
Diana
Kennedy
Diana Kennedy, "the Julia Child of Mexican cooking" was with
us at McIntyre's on May 4th for a fabulous culinary author event.
Diana is a real spitfire; she doesn't mince words and doesn't
compromise on ingredients or process. She entertained the crowd
(full to capacity!) with stories of seeking out authentic recipes by
traveling the Mexican countryside and talking with cooks, many times
making the trip multiple times - once over thirty kilometers of
washboard gravel road - to come back to get the exact ingredients
and techniques. We have signed copies of her book The Art of
Mexican Cooking available in the shop now!
LynnE Rossetto Kasper

McIntyre's Fine Books was honored to host a reading and
discussion with Lynne Rossetto Kasper on April 10th. Kasper,
who has captivated radio listeners for many years as co-host of
NPR's The Splendid Table, spoke to an equally enthralled
audience of over 200 guests in The Fearrington Barn. In addition to
discussing her new cookbook, The Splendid Table's How To Eat
Supper, she also shared insights into the evolution of food
shows in the media, the importance of individuals and restaurants
buying from local suppliers, the history of agriculture in society
and much more. We would like to thank Lynne, as well as everyone who
joined us to make this event such a success.
Pedestal Pick
Each month our
staff picks a favorite new book and we place it 'on a
pedestal' in the front of the store. Our current Pedestal Pick is
The Lee Bros Southern Cookbook by Matt Lee and Ted Lee
**2007
James Beard Award winner - we have signed copies available!
"From the New York Times food writers who defended lard and
demystified gumbo comes a collection of exceptional southern recipes
for everyday cooks. The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook tells the
story of the brothers' culinary coming-of-age in Charleston - how
they triumphed over their northern roots and learned to cook
southern without a southern grandmother."
