The Drunken Botanist Event with Amy Stewart and Guest Bartenders Gary Crunkleton & Charlotte Viossier


Our Books & Cooks series continues with a gardener’s and mixologist’s dream party, co-hosted by Gary Crunkleton, introducing the bestselling author Amy Stewart (The Drunken Botanist: The Plants that Create the World’s Great Drinks) along with guest bartender Charlotte Voisey, on April 24, 6 p.m., on the Garden Terrace.

Local expert, colleague, friend of the author Gary Crunkleton of the eponymous popular Chapel Hill private club/bar will make introductions. Gary has also brought in Charlotte Voisey to mix drinks and help with the seriously fun and delicious discussions that naturally take up at these Cooks & Books events.

“This will be a fun event. Charlotte Voisey is the rock-star bartender joining us,” says Gary, excitedly. “We are doing cocktails with Hendrick’s gin, also one Milagro Tequila, and one Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. And of course the book is great. Amy has done a stupendous job bringing fascinating details about botanicals to our glass. Drunken Botanist is a fun read for any imbiber. I was amazed to learn, for example, that quinine glows under black light—far out!”

And in a beverage-pairing reversal, Executive Chef Colin Bedford and his team are creating an hors d’ouevre menu to compliment the drinks.
