The Fairchilds of Fearrington

Stephen Fairchild, Katherine Fairchild, and Lyn Fairchild Hawks present business thrillers, cozy mystery, women’s fiction, and young adult novels, with music by Greg Hawks.

Two Fearrington residents and their Chapel Hill daughter share their latest novels plus lessons learned in writing and publishing, accompanied by their singer-songwriter son-in-law.

Business Thrillers by Stephen Fairchild In The Silver Lining Betrayals and Lady Daimyo and the Silver Lining Curse, Pug James and Natsu Nashakatani battle for control of valuable technology patents. Whether CEO Pug is fighting adversaries who want to steal his inventions or his own bottomless ego, he attracts betrayals and drama. Whether Natsu is fighting misogyny or racial prejudice to take her rightful place as CEO, she is on the rise in her corporation, blazing a trail despite detractors. But can either overcome the latest Hydra of multinational corporate villains out to get both of them?

Stephen Fairchild became an author after 40 years in businesses ranging from small-family enterprises to Fortune 200 multinational corporations. Living and working in Europe, Australia, Asia, and the US has inspired his stories. He writes and consults about technology startups, entrepreneurship, family business, and management dysfunction.

Women’s Fiction and Cozy Mystery by Katherine Fuoco Fairchild In Hard Luck Georgia Girl, Ardith Evans has her share of setbacks. She has to rise above a bad husband, a backlog of bills, and all the hurdles of building a small business. She believes she’s got what it takes to persist. But starting over in big-city Atlanta doesn’t mean you can leave your past behind. Sometimes it’s hot on your trail to give you the hardest luck of all.

In Mowing for Justice, Merle Hucken is just an average guy minding his own business. He’s come across some odd things in his highway mowing work, but the day he and his buddy Seth find a dead body is a real doozy. When Seth is charged with the murder, Merle vows to exonerate him and put off hacking kudzu till he can bring peace to their small Southern town.

Katherine Fuoco Fairchild has launched a chocolate store, taught English to all ages, and traveled the world alongside Stephen.Whether Belgium, Australia, Hong Kong,  Singapore, Georgia, or North Carolina, her short stories and novels bring a rich sense of place while her characters navigate the terrain of complicated family relationships. Her stories and memoirs have appeared in Pooled Ink, The Rambler, and The News & Observer.

Young Adult Fiction by Lyn Fairchild Hawks In @nervesofsteel, Minerva Mae is the first ninth grader on her school paper, ready to be the next Christiane Amanpour. It’s 2013 and Twitter’s a Wild West full of misogynistic trolls Minerva would love to take down–the biggest being Chaz, basketball phenom and hottest guy in school. He’s doing a full-court press on Minerva’s best friend, Diana. When Minerva investigates bullying allegations and tracks tweets to the scene of a party, she finds Diana on the fast track to Chaz’s despicable “Final Four”—a tournament of no consent. Should @nervesofsteel fight back with reporting like the NYT or like TMZ? Maybe it’s time for vigilante justice for a girl who’s feeling like a lot more than a friend.

Lyn Fairchild Hawks has authored eight books, including the prequel to @nerveofsteel: Minerda, a graphic novella with Robin Follet. Her debut YA, How Wendy Redbird Dancing Survived the Dark Ages of Nought, was a James Jones First Novel Fellowship semifinalist. Lyn is the 2021 winner of the Norma Fox Mazer Award from Vermont College of Fine Arts' program in Writing for Children and Young Adults. When she’s not writing, she helps teens find their storytelling superpowers.

Greg Hawks is a critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter leaving his mark on everything from alt-country (Fool’s Paradise, Yep Roc) to bluegrass (What’s Your Hurry, Sweet & Salty). His four albums cast a wide net, especially I Think It’s Time and What Goes Around, inspired by the twang of classic country, the hooks of 1970s pop/rock, the rhythmic soul of old-school Stax records, and Hawks’ own roots in Mount Airy.
