Gary Phillips
was the 2016-2019 poet laureate of Carrboro, North Carolina. He lives in a rammed earth house in Silk Hope, North Carolina. A child of Appalachia, Gary reads poetry and Afro-Futurism, studies amphibian activities on full moon nights and was once a commissioner in Chatham County. His book of poetry and occasional pieces, The Boy The Brave Girls was printed in 2016 by Human Error Publishing.

In 2019, a manuscript of Paul Jones’ poems crashed into the moon carried by Israel’s Beresheet lander. In 2021, Jones was inducted into the NC State Computer Science Hall of Fame. His latest collection is Something Wonderful. His chapbook, What the Welsh and Chinese Have in Common (NCWN, 1990), is now hard to find. Jones has published poems in Poetry, Tar River Poetry, Hudson Review, North Carolina Literary Review, and Broadkill Review as well as in cookbooks, in travel anthologies, in collections about passion, love, and in The Best American Erotic Poems: 1800 - Present (Scribner, 2008). He has had multiple Pushcart and Best of the Web nominations.
